I was going to blog about the ongoing Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2025 competition. But I cannot do this as I'm unable to download and upload any photographs from the competition. For some reason, I can only download and upload photographs that are JPEG images. I don't know what JPEG means but I do know JPEG images are the the only images I can download from source and upload on this site. I wonder whether others have that issue.
B. Kiran Simpson's And Take Off - Gannets at Bass Rock:
Instead of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition, I'll blog about the less prestigious British Wildlife Photography Awards 2025 because its photographs are JPEG images courtesy of the Irish Examiner newspaper!
C. Jamie Smart's Curlew O'Clock!:
The first three photographs were taken by the three winners in the children's section of the photography competition. Ben Lucas, Kiran Simpson and Jamie Smart won in the 15-17 years, 12-14 years, and 11 and under years categories respectively. Moreover, Jamie Smart, aged nine, was crowned the Young British Wildlife Photographers of the Year 2025 for her photograph of a curlew. Incredible!
D. Simon Withyman's Urban Explorer:
The photograph above earned Simon Withyman the grand prize at the British Wildlife Photography Awards 2025. His photograph shows a red fox on patrol on the streets of Bristol's city centre.
E. Nicholas More's Blue Shark:
More than 13,000 photographers were submitted to the competition from both amateur and professional photographers.

A lot of images are in webp format these days, mainly because it's higher quality but smaller file size when uploading to the web. Like mentioned earlier, there are apps that convert the file. Other options are you can do a [Copy image], paste it in PowerPoint, right-click on the image and select [Save as image], or take a screenshot of the image using the Snipit tool that comes with Windows. The tool usually saves the image somewhere on the computer, usually in the Pictures folder.
I like the forked birch image. I wonder if those are shooting stars in the sky.

The forked birch photo is popular here. They could be shooting stars and, if so, that's one lucky photographer!
They're all wonderful (of course) but I guess my favorite is Urban Explorer mostly for the expression on the foxes face,
JPEG stands for Joint Photographers Expert Group. Files in that format are EXTREMELY similar to JPGs and the two terms are basically interchangeable. My most recent HNW post contained uploaded photos with both JPEG and JPG extensions. Also, many simple photo programs bundled in the operating system of computers contain the option to open a photo and then save it in some other format.
Thanks for the JPEG information. My computer doesn't have the option to save an image in another format. My computer is very basic.
The photo of the red grouse is my favorite. The pigeon photo was a very creative idea.
That red grouse may have got shot after the photo was taken!
I like the Urban Explorer because it shows how thin (or nonexistent) the border between wildlife and urban environments can be.
In my neighborhood it's not unusual to see a coyote strolling down the street.
The fox does look thin. Foxes seem to thrive better in cities than in the countryside here, presumably there's more food available. Do you have foxes in America?
@spunkycumfun we do, and they occasionally get spotted in my neighborhood but coyotes are more common.
@smartasswoman We don't get coyotes here.
Excellent "Wildlife Photography" Spunky, and each is unique, so difficult to choose, and some of em have great Titles!
A titling of a photograph is important.
The 1st three are very interesting, but the last one is over the top. Love the lighting!

I don't know whether any photographs were AI-enhanced. My guess is that the competitions bans AI, but I'm only guessing.
The red grouse is putting on a stunning display! I love the forest too. The shark makes me breathe a little quicker. The birch makes me think of some long legged person doing a handstand

I've had a lot of trouble with finding illustrations for my posts. The change in format, away from jpeg, is probably the photographer's way of preventing the unauthorized use of the picture.
I cannot blame photographers and others wanting to protect their work.
ezgif.com this will let you convert webp to jpg formant awkward if you are like me and like to download lots of pics. I've often times resort to using the snip function instead when quality isn't an issue.

Rain Deer. There is something so majestic about it, perhaps it’s the setting and the bugle pose of its body.

JPEG is an image file format that compresses files. There are other image style formats. This site only supports some of those
